Android Roguelite · Made in Sydney

Every bonus rewrites the rules

DynamicBonusProtocol gameplay running on an Android phone

DynamicBonusProtocol is a hand-tuned Android roguelite where stacking modifiers reshape each run. Free to download, no pay-to-win, and fully playable on the train through the Cross City Tunnel.

The studio

Built in a Darlinghurst loft, tested on the 380 bus

We are a five-person independent studio working out of a converted warehouse on William Street. DynamicBonusProtocol started as a lunchtime prototype and grew into a full roguelite with 140+ stackable bonuses that interact in ways even we did not plan.

The whole game is engineered for real Android hardware — it holds a steady 60fps on a three-year-old mid-range phone, weighs under 90 MB, and never asks for your contacts. Every update ships from this room after we play it on the walk to Kings Cross station.

  • Runs offline — no signal needed on the ferry
  • Under 90 MB install, no bloat
  • One-time optional unlock, zero forced ads

The full game is free. There is a single optional unlock — the "Founder Protocol" at AU$6.99 — that adds two extra character classes and a cosmetic theme. It grants no combat advantage, and every ranked leaderboard is played on the free base build so the competition stays fair.

You need Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer and roughly 200 MB of free space. We test every release on a Pixel 4a, a Samsung A52, and a base Motorola G-series so it runs smoothly on mid-range hardware, not just flagships.

Yes. Runs, unlocks, and progression all work fully offline and sync when you reconnect. It was literally designed for the dead zones on the T4 line and the Manly ferry, so you can keep a run going the whole commute.

A standard run lasts about 12 to 20 minutes, and you can suspend and resume any time — the game snapshots your exact state. Idle mode also keeps generating resources while the app is closed, capped at eight hours so you always come back to something.

We ship a content update roughly every six weeks, usually adding a new bonus family, an enemy set, and balance tuning based on the previous season. Update notes are written by the same people who build the game, and we read the Play Store reviews weekly.

Hit a run where three bonuses chained into infinite dashes. I have never yelled on a train before. This is the first mobile game I have finished a full season of.

Under 90 MB and it runs perfectly on my old A52. No creepy permissions, no ads shoved in my face. The optional unlock felt genuinely worth the AU$6.99.

The offline mode is the killer feature for me — I play the whole ferry ride with no signal and it never drops a frame. Six-week updates keep it fresh too.

The bonus interactions are wild. I keep a notes file of combos. The devs actually reply to reviews, which is unheard of. Best 12 minutes of my commute.

Ranked being on the free build is such a good call. Nobody is buying their way up the leaderboard. Pure skill and a bit of luck with the drops.

I met the team at a Darlinghurst meetup and you can tell they play their own game obsessively. That care shows in every single update.
